Raymond James Branch in Brooklin, Ontario, Raises $40,000 for the Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation
At Raymond James, we embrace and encourage social responsibility. Our partners demonstrate this in countless ways, such as giving gifts to those in need, volunteering, and leading fundraising initiatives.
The Howe branch in Brooklin, Ontario, is one of many Raymond James teams that rally to give back to the community in which they live and serve their clients. Most recently, the branch raised a total of $40,000 with the help of the Raymond James Annual Giving Campaign, a company-wide fundraising initiative held late fall in which Raymond James employees and associates make donations to the causes closest to their heart. Donations are matched by the Raymond James Canada Foundation (RJCF).
The charity of choice for the Howe branch was the Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation, a Toronto-based organization that aspires to help the most under-resourced individuals in Canada and around the world. Its top three priorities are to develop character, enhance education, and improve health. On December 7, 2014, the Howe team held a Christmas Open House to present a cheque to Jennifer Branco, Executive Director of the Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation.
Following the success of the Open House, Mike "Pinball" Clemons insisted on paying a visit with his wife, Diane Clemons, to express their gratitude. A follow-up event was held a week later at the retirement community The Court at Brooklin. Senior residents and Howe branch clients attended. Mike gave a moving talk about the value of education and how it impacts one's health, opportunities, and future prospects. Diane brightened the evening by singing Christmas and Gospel songs a cappella.
Out of the $40,000 raised, 50% will go to schools in Africa and other third-world countries, while the remaining 50% will go to local youth education. A huge thank you goes to all the donors who made this possible! Bill Howe sums up very well the importance of giving back to our communities: "We spend the entire year working hard to preserve and create wealth for clients, but it is essential that we also help those less fortunate in our society."
Update 01/2015: Thanks to a final push during their Christmas party, the Howe branch was able to raise the donation total to $50,825. The team has allocated $20,000 towards schools in third-world countries and the remaining $30,825 towards local educational initiatives. Congratulations on their outstanding efforts!
