Raymond James showed their Blue at Father's Day Walk/Runs for Prostate Cancer across the country!

On Father's Day this year, 200 Raymond James employees joined others in their communities to raise awareness and funds in the fight against prostate cancer. Together, they helped raise approximately $350,000.

"We are so proud to have partnered with Prostate Cancer Foundation BC and stepped forward as a company to team up for the 2015 Father's Day Walk/Run," says Paul Allison, Chairman and C.E.O. of Raymond James in Canada. "Together, we are committed to making a difference to those individuals and families living with prostate cancer, and to help raise awareness and support for prostate cancer across British Columbia and the rest of Canada."

Prostate cancer- the most common cancer in Canadian men - will afflict 1 in 7 during their lifetime. It is more common where there is a family history and it is being diagnosed more frequently in younger men. Research suggests that diet, environmental factors and genetics can impact prostate cancer occurrence. It is estimated 25,500 Canadian men will be diagnosed this year, often without symptoms in its earliest, most treatable stage. In BC 3,400 will be diagnosed and 530 will die in an average year.

Education around prostate cancer is essential for prevention of the disease. The Father's Day Walks/Runs are a powerful way to raise awareness and funds in the fight against prostate cancer, to ensure that cancer is a thing of the past for future generations. There were many walks/runs held across the country on Father's Day - in Victoria, Vancouver, Kelowna and Chilliwack, Calgary and Ottawa, local Raymond James teams joined their communities in the fight against cancer.

"We had an inspiring start to Father's Day, out team at RJ was proud to once again be the lead sponsor for the Ultimate Run to end men's cancers, a 17 year tradition. All of the money raised stays in Ottawa and improves odds of survivorship for everyone battling cancer in our community. Good job Ottawa!" - Trevor Johnson, Financial Advisor.

Leah Lariviere, Executive Director of the Prostate Cancer Foundation BC said, "The support and commitment from Raymond James and their employees was instrumental in surpassing our goals for the event. We are so grateful to have such a wonderful sponsor to not only work with, but one who demonstrates the same passion for helping our communities as much as we do. Thank you Raymond James for "showing your blue" in such a big way!"
