Celebrating International Women’s Day and Investing in the Future

International Women’s Day (IWD), marked worldwide every year on March 8, provides an opportunity to recognize the achievements of women across all aspects of life while advocating for gender equity.

At Raymond James Ltd., it’s an opportunity to recognize and reinforce our long-term commitment to attracting women financial advisors and meeting the unique needs of women investors.

With women currently representing 20 percent of Raymond James’ advisors—surpassing the industry average of between 15 to 20 percent—the firm recognizes the importance of accelerating progress to create greater opportunities for women as financial advisors and investors.

“We’re actively building a culture where women feel empowered to reach their full potential,” said Jamie Coulter, Chief Executive Officer, Raymond James Ltd. “International Women’s Day allows us to celebrate our progress and create even greater opportunities for women to thrive – as clients, advisors and associates."

Addressing Barriers and Expanding Opportunities

A recent study conducted by VersaFi, a non-profit organization focused on gender equity in finance and co-sponsored by Raymond James, highlighted the significant challenges that continue to hinder women’s advancement in wealth management. Persistent biases and inequitable succession planning remain key barriers, the report found. However, with nearly 40 percent of advisors expected to retire over the next decade and Canadian women projected to control approximately C$900 billion in financial wealth, the need for women in advisory roles has never been more urgent.

Driving Change Through Strategic Initiatives

The 2025 International Women’s Day theme—“Accelerate Action”—neatly sums up Raymond James’ ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in finance. Internally, the firm’s Women Canadian Advisors Network, Women of Inspiration and Women in Capital Markets play a pivotal role in supporting and empowering female advisors through networking, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Key initiatives for these groups include:

  • Annual Women’s Symposium – A premier event, hosted for over 30 years, where women advisors from across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom gather for collaboration, education, and inspiration.
  • Mastermind/Peer-Sharing Groups – Sessions designed to educate, empower, and foster collaboration among women in finance, providing a safe space for mentorship and professional growth.
  • “Nourish & Thrive” Retreat – An exclusive retreat celebrating the achievements of female financial advisors while offering a supportive environment for personal and professional development.
  • “Ask Me Anythings” (AMAs) – An opportunity for women across the firm to hear from senior leadership at Raymond James and beyond.
Investing in the Future of Women in Finance

Raymond James is also committed to inspiring and empowering the next generation of women financial advisors. In partnership with Rugby Canada, the firm is extending career development opportunities to female athletes, supporting them as they transition from sports to the financial industry. On March 4, Raymond James hosted a professional development workshop—“Beyond the Game”—at its Vancouver Cathedral office for Rugby Canada’s U20 women’s national team. The workshop provided insight into careers in wealth management, including potential internship opportunities at Raymond James.

Additionally, Raymond James is launching a targeted digital media campaign throughout March to promote career opportunities for women in financial services, showcasing the insights and experiences of Women Canadian Advisors Network members.

Looking Ahead

As Raymond James continues to drive initiatives that enhance gender equity in wealth management, the firm remains steadfast in its mission to support women advisors and investors. By fostering a culture of inclusion, mentorship, and professional growth, Raymond James is not only creating meaningful career opportunities but also strengthening the financial industry as a whole.
